The Commemoration of the "International Day of Peace" in Tehran Peace Museum

 

 

international-day-of-peaceAn anniversary ceremony on the occasion of "International Day of Peace" was held at Tehran Peace Museum (TPM) on September 18, 2016 and Victims of Iran - Iraq war, TPM volunteers as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nations Information Center, the ambassadors and representatives of the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Sweden, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Tehran Municipality and Non-Governmental Organizations, were among the attendees of this event.


In the beginning, Mr. Kazem Moghaddas, an active volunteer of TPM and a victim of war recited the welcome message to the attendees on behalf of the TPM family and asserted on the necessity of holding programs based on promoting a culture of peace. Then, TPM message on this occasion was recited by Dr. Hamid Salehi, a board member of the TPM.


Dr. Salehi was followed by the head of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT), Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Beheshti, who talked about "chivalry books" and introduced them as collections including thoughts, moralities, and manners and discussed their position in Persian literature as well as their link to the peace.


The short animation of "Simorgh", a work by Mr. Meghdad Asadi Lari with the subject matter of "unity" which was previously appreciated in various domestic and international festivals was displayed in this part of program.


Then, Mrs. Suzana Terstal, the interim representative of the "European Union" and the ambassador of the Netherlands, referred to "The Hague" as a symbol of cities of peace around the world and alluded to some measures and efforts, committed to the establishment of peace in this city.


Also, Dr. Rasool Khezri, Sardash representative in the Iran Parliament, introduced "Sardash", as the peace city of Iran and described its position after the chemical attack, efforts made for its development and improvement, and cultural measures committed to spreading the message of peace through this city.


Afterwards, the message of the UN Secretary General on this occasion was recited by Mr. Mohammad Rajaei Moghaddam, the representative of United Nations Information Center through which the necessity of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) was emphasized.


Thereafter, the attendees hold one minute of silence and uttered praying for the commemoration of the victims of violence and extremism.


The children's drawing exhibition, titled "Peace for me ...", which included 21 children drawings from Hadis pre-school center was displayed in TPM's Art for Peace Gallery as a side event.


It's worth mentioning that Mr. Asadollah Mohammadi, one of the chemical warfare survivors who is a volunteer guide of Tehran Peace Museum was the presenter of this program.
