International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

An observance on the occasion of the "International Day in Support of Victims of Torture,” in cooperation with the Organization for Defending Victims of Violence (ODVV) and the United Nations Information Center (UNIC)’s office in Tehran, was held on Sunday 28 June 2015 in the Tehran Peace Museum.
During the event, Mr. Siavash Rahpeyk, the board director of the Organization for Defending Victims of Violence reported the activities of this organization and announced the slogan for this year - The Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture.
Mr. Mohammad Mogghadam, UNIC’s national information officer in Tehran, delivered the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon’s message. In his speech, Mr. Ban Ki Moon reminded all governments in the world of the “absolute prohibition on the use of torture at any time and under any circumstances under international law.” In his address, the Secretary General also stated that torture, when used in a systematic manner, may be considered as a crime against humanity.
Dr. Jafar Mirzaei and Dr. Ali Khaji were other speakers at the event as researchers and therapists who explained what the definition of torture is, and the effects torture has on individuals. There was some discussion about the therapeutic assistance given to torture victims.
