World Refugee Day Observed in Tehran Peace Museum
Millions of families all over the world have fled their homes to escape war, poverty or human rights abuses. Every year, on June 20th, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recognizes all refugees by observing World Refugee Day. The Tehran Peace Museum held a special event on Saturday June 20th 2015 in cooperation with the Association for Protection of Refugee Women and Children (Hami) and the Enhance the Quality of Iranian's Lives Charity Institute (Ilia).
Representatives of the Ilia Institute explained the scope of their organizations activities in Tehran and the Alborz provinces. Ilia stated that most of their work was concerned with Afghan women and children.
Representative of Hami also investigated the reasons and background for human migration with special reference to the importance of this issue for Iran. Iran's domestic laws and international conventions for refugees were also discussed.
Before the workshop, the audiences were given a tour of the museum to acquaint themselves with the history of chemical weapons in Iran, the consequences of such weapons for survivors and the museum’s consequent mission to create a culture of peace.
