Energy - Make it Bird Friendly
World Migratory Bird Day is being celebrated globally on May 9- 10, 2015. Developing on this year’s theme of “Energy- Make it Bird Friendly!” the Tehran Peace Museum is hosting a special two-day event to raise awareness about bio-diversity, sustainable energy and its impact on migratory birds.
World Migratory Bird Day started in 2006 to inform the public about the necessity of protecting the world’s migratory birds and their habitats. The campaign’s origins are rooted in two international wildlife treaties – the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds – administered by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The campaign’s objective is to develop partnerships in the joint collaborative aim of protecting migratory birds and protecting the biodiversity of our planet. The consequence of the global expansion of energy distribution and generation creates serious problems for wildlife. Migratory birds are particularly vulnerable to high mortality rates and displacement due to collisions with power lines and the risk of electrocution.
World Migratory Bird Day aims to encourage local, nation and international partners to consider energy development techniques, which will take the habits and migratory patterns of birds into consideration and assist with the conservation of these precious birds.
The Tehran Peace Museum kindly invites visitors to come to the museum, participate in our bio-diversity awareness raising programs and share ideas with us.
