sister-ship agreement between Tehran Peace Museum & Halabja Monument

A sister-ship agreement between Tehran Peace Museum and Halabja Monument/ Museum was signed in Tehran on Monday 10 June 2013.
Tehran Peace Museum (located in Tehran, Iran) and Halabja Monument Museum (located in Halabja, Iraqi Kurdistan) are the only museums in the world to address the chemical warfare and its consequences and have guides who are survivors of chemical warfare.
According to this agreement, the two museums will share experiences, have joint cultural- artistic or research projects, exchange experts and will cooperate on recording the chemical weapons victims testimonies as the oral history.
One of the main goals of both museums is to promote culture of peace through raising awareness about the consequences of war and to prevent repeat of such disasters.

UN Resident Coordinator in Iran visited the Peace Museum

Mr.Gary Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Iran, visited the TPM on Monday 27 May 2013.
Following a visit to the Museum, Mr Lewis had a friendly meeting with some TPM members, war veterans and chemical warfare survivors who work with the peace museum as volunteer guides.
During the meeting, Mr Lewis reiterated the importance of raising awareness about the consequences of war to promote culture of peace and the role of war survivors in such awareness programs.

Report: “My friend”, Iranian Children’s Drawing Exhibition

“My Friend” was the title of an exhibition of Iranian Children’s Drawings held on 22 & 23 May 2013 in Tehran’s Arasbaran civic center, as collaboration between Tehran Peace Museum and Hadis Pre-school center.
In this exhibition which was the 4th joint program of Hadis Pre-school center and Tehran Peace Museum, 40 drawings of children (4-12 years) were exhibited.
During two days, interested people, students as well as representatives of media, visited the exhibition and enjoyed watching children’s drawings.

Workshop on: Refugees, Humanitarian assistance and efforts towards a peaceful life

A workshop on "Refugees, Humanitarian Assistance and Efforts toward Peaceful Life" was held at Tehran Peace Museum on 23 May 2013.
In the workshop which was a joint program of the UN Refugee Agency -UNHCR- and the TPM, over 50 students and TPM volunteers participated to discuss different topics including: History and mission of the UNHCR, basic facts, terminology, and the refugees challenges.
The participants also had chance to listen to the life story of one of the afghan refugees.

Tehran peace museum
Tehran peace Museum is a member of the International Network of Museums for Peace. the main objective of the museum is to promote a culture of peace through raising awareness about the devastating consequences of war with focus on health and environmental impacts of Chemical weapons.
Currently housed in a building donated by the municipality of Tehran within the historic City Park, the Tehran Peace Museum is as much an interactive peace center as a museum.
On June 29, 2007, a memorial for the poison gas victims of the Iran-Iraq War (1980–88), along with a Peace Museum, was completed in a park in Tehran, the capital of Iran. These facilities were established by the Society for Chemical Weapons Victims Support (an Iranian NGO), the city of Tehran, some other NGOs, and individuals and groups in Hiroshima.
The museum coordinates a peace education program that holds workshops on humanitarian law, disarmament, tolerance, and peace education. At the same time, it hosts conferences on the culture of peace, reconciliation, international humanitarian law, disarmament, and peace advocacy.
Additionally, the museum houses a documentary studio that provides a workspace wherein the individual stories of victims of warfare can be captured and archived for the historical record. The museum’s peace library includes a collection of literature spanning topics from international law to the implementation of peace to oral histories of veterans and victims of war.
Permanent and rotating peace-related art exhibitions displaying the work of amateur international and Iranian artists and children's drawings are also housed in the museum complex. Finally, the Iranian secretariat for the international organization Mayors for Peace is housed in the Tehran Peace Museum.
