Sardasht Memorial: Listen to Chemical Warfare Survivors

It was 28 years ago – on June 28th 1987 – when Iraq dropped a series of chemical bombs on the city of Sardasht in Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province.  The Tehran Peace Museum will commemorate this event in conjunction with the “National Day for the Commemoration of Victims of Chemical Weapons,” in the museum this coming Monday June 29th between 10 am and 5 pm.

During this time of reflection, visitors are invited to come to the museum and meet with a number of survivors of chemical warfare.  All visitors will be offered the unique opportunity to listen to the survivors’ eyewitness accounts and understand more about the consequences of weapons of mass destruction.

Visitors will also be able to discover and get involved in the many peace initiatives and activities run by the Tehran Peace Museum and its volunteers – many of whom are survivors of the chemical attacks during the Iran-Iraq War.

There will also be a sideline event to commemorate those who lost their lives to these chemical weapons attacks by dedicating flowers to the memorial located in the center of the city park (5-6 pm).
